I've still got a lot that I'd like to catch up on from the winter, but I was about to head out the door for a quick bike ride on Saturday when I saw this little guy wandering through the neighborhood. I haven't seen as many moose in town this year, so it was fun to walk around with him for a while.

Alyeska Ski Race
A friend of mine volunteers to help with the races at Alyeska. I met up with him and shot a race in April. We had a beautiful, bluebird day and it was amazing to see the racers scream down the course. We started pretty early in the morning, at least for Alaska, and there were some nice, long shadows to play with.

Iditarod Day 2
The second day of Iditarod is a different scene than the ceremonial start in Anchorage. The race moves 90 miles north and teams prepare for the official start of a thousand mile trek.
Our good friend Nathaniel and his friend Amy, a dog handler from Colorado.
Martin Buser slammin' a hot dog before the race.
But seriously, Martin's an incredible racer. He's been going since the 80's and still has the record completion time for the Iditarod. He's also a really nice guy.
Since I'm posting this after the fact, I can say that Lance Mackey has now won a record 4 in a row. But honestly, you could tell that everyone sort of expected it.
Newton.
Dee Dee's all pink team.
And a couple more of Lance...

Iditarod Day 1
My first post on this sort of has to be my images from Iditarod. I've been to the Anchorage start before, but this year was a bit different. I was given a media pass that allowed me to work my way through the staging area before the starts. It really was kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Multiple time top-ten finisher, Dee Dee Jonrowe. A cancer survivor and crowd favorite.
Four-time Iditarod champ, Jeff King.
The first Jamaican competitor in Iditarod history. Newton Marshall seemed to be having a blast. He had a smile on his face all day.
As things started to die down, I shot over to a park to get a few of the riders going by. At this point, the clock's not ticking. You'd never know it from the way the dogs are pulling, but the mushers were high-fiving, throwing candy to kids, and chatting as they cruised by.
